I’m Tom Dehnel. I’m an independent SEO consultant who spends most of the year in San Francisco, and part of the year in South Florida. I think it’s funny how both Californians and Floridians use each others’ state as a punch line. I like both places.
I’m married to this wonderful woman. I try to stay in shape. I run, play golf, and go to the gym. I also write and make occasional YouTube videos when I have the time (which lately seems to be never). In February of 2023 I swore off exclamation marks.

I’ve worked in marketing since 2005. I’m old enough that we used to call it “digital marketing” when I started. I look young because I sleep upside down. Just joking I sleep in a regular horizontal bed.
I’ve done SEO for companies from pre-launch startups to major tech and finance firms. I like what I do. It still feels like magic when I get to help brands connect to new customers with search.
I like to question assumptions. I focus on what corporate people call “leveraged solutions.” In English, that means getting the most bang-for-your-buck. SEO can be confusing because there are always a million things you can do. The trick is knowing which ones will produce the best business results.
I have high openness and a bias towards action, so I usually err on the side of getting something up and running quickly so we can test it. To me, it makes sense to launch fast, gather feedback as soon as possible, and continually improve. I think Edward Deming was a G.
I’m particularly good at explaining things to different types of people. I can communicate SEO equally well to founders, executives, managers, individual contributors, developers, creatives, and probably your grandparents.
